History

The history of Kerala State Billiards Association dates back to the days of formation of the State of Kerala and is the apex body of the game in the State.

Kerala Billiards Association was founded at Ernakulam on 22nd March 1958. The association was founded by few likeminded Billiards enthusiasts from various clubs to streamline the game amongst members of various clubs in Ernakulam. In due course a Memorandum of Association (MOA) was drafted and signed by founder members and the Association was formally registered.

The registered office of the association is located in Kochi (formerly Ernakulam).

The Association was formed to foster, encourage, stimulate interest in, promote and develop the game of Billiards, Snooker, Pool and other allied games played on a Billiards table. To organise coaching camps, liaising with Billiards and Snooker Federation of India the apex body of the game in India and organising tournaments. The Association has been conducting Billiards & Snooker State Championships for more than 55 years, Junior State Championships since 1972 and Sub Junior events since 2018.

Kerala Billiards Association hosted the National Senior Billiards and Snooker Championships in 1972 and in 1984. The association also hosted south-zone championships several times in the past.

Kerala Billiards Association is proud to associate with Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), in conducting the 2019 Indian Open professional snooker tournament. The Fifth edition of International Indian Open Snooker tournament was held at Grand Hyatt Kochi in Feb 2019. This is the most prestigious snooker event in India with professional snooker players from all over the world participating. The total prize money paid out in 2019 was Sterling Pound 323,000/- (Approx.Rs.3.00 crores).
